The article aims to understand the particularities of the configuration of femicide as a public problem in Salta, Argentina. In order to do this, first of all, it provides a local contextualization of the problem of violence against women since the beginning of 2000. Subsequently, it outlines various social and political factors that, in the opinion of this research, influenced the declaration of Public Emergency for Gender Violence on September 9, 2014. Based on a qualitative and documentary methodology, the technique of content analysis was used as an organizing resource of various bibliographic and journalistic sources. The work seeks to contribute to the reconstruction of processes of recent history that, on the one hand, dispute the prevailing sense of salteñidad, and, in turn, allow establishing relationships between shocking cases of femicide; mobilizations of family members who recover strategies and slogans of human rights organizations; and struggles and resistance of a feminism, until then, not popularized.
