Reconstruction and representation of the disappearance of the 43 Ayotzinapa teacher-trainees: journalistic information vs research report
Keywords:
media representation, misinformation, forced disappearanceAbstract
This article compares the journalistic reporting of Reforma and La Jornada newspapers with the report published by Grupo Interdisciplinario de Expertos Independientes (GIEI) -Independent Expert Interdisciplinary Group-, about the disappearance of the 43 teacher-trainees of Ayotzinapa (Mexico) from 26th to 27th of September 2014. The analysis reveals that the news information is imprecise, confusing, and in many cases, misleading, in comparison to that offered by the GIEI. This way of constructing reality becomes a strategy for misinformation that contravenes not only the victims' right to lean the truth but also the readers' right to be informed.
