Abstract

This essay parts from the fact that human beings are never alone. However, it is in the community that we learn and teach; and the important issue is to learn and live in a group with self-control. After defining what we understand as education, the need of society will be addressed (family and civil). The actions are carried out by people and they are qualified according to their actions (good people, intelligent person, general person, etc.). This means that people are responsible for their actions: they are or should be owners of their (internal) acts and (external) actions. But to become mastered implies that this is of value, and requires time and personal learning with favorable social support. But in the postmodernity we live in, immediate pleasure, freedom and addiction have become widespread. The paper considers these three topics and the complexity they imply. The strategies of postmodern domination and the lack of meaning in life and self-control are then analyzed. The paper ends by assessing education as the possibility of recovering the addict's self-control, in a social context.
