Quadrant model of gender and sexual behavior
Abstract
This paper proposes a quadrant model of gender and sexual behavior in order to argue the importance of breaking with static categories of sex, gender and sexual orientation. Based on Judith Butler's theory of the performativity of gender identity, this model posits the need to view these elements as isolated types of behavior, which supports the possibility of fluid and mutable categories. The proposal of the model rests on quantitative research carried out on a sample population of 500 people, in order to obtain practical information related to this topic. In conclusion, it is considered that, although the categories of sex, gender and sexual orientation are valuable for explanatory and analytical purposes, they are unrealistic in the face of the potential diversity found in human beings.
