Abstract

The paper approaches the role of politics in the thought of Maurice Merleau-Ponty. With this aim, the paper takes two outstanding writings that allow us to understand this research. The analysis of these writings highlight the main core of politics philosophy of Merleau- Ponty beyond the regular periodization of his work. This core condensates a notion of politics as contingency and conflict of Machiavellian roots that critically dialogues with the Marxist tradition. The paper concludes with the hypothesis that Merleau- Ponty’s reflections about politics nourish from a humanist concept subtracted of the Heidegger same issue in the republican saga of the politics humanism.
