The aim of this study is to achieve an insight into the psychosocial and sports profile of new students at the School of Physical Education at La Matanza National University. Using a qualitative approach, and by means of an exploratory design, 28 in-depth interviews were conducted during 2020, where the sports background, experiences related to primary and secondary school Physical Education, and students´ perceptions about their chosen careers were analyzed. These interviews have shown that these students had had frequent both personal and family related sport experiences. These experiences presented greater heterogeneity during basic and college schooling, as regards the subject itself and the teachers responsible for it. Students´ social environment is shown to have had great influence on the development of their professional vocation and this analysis has also revealed the importance of strengthening these contexts as well as of optimizing academic training processes.
