New roles in television consumption or the sense of community in the digital age

The consolidation of multiple digital platforms leads to the recognition of a more horizontal relationship between the public that consumes streaming services and television offers, which favors the constitution of subjectivities and emerging digital communities due to the way in which virtual environments are configured to dialogue, debate, or theorize about some content. This article analyzes three television productions that became media phenomena when their audiences rethought the traditional condition of being a viewer: Games of Thrones, Stranger Things and Dark, community experiences favored by the way in which the consumption of television series made platforms and networks social, media and interaction spaces that allow consuming publics to become communities of practice and meaning; territories where consumption has been able to migrate as an expression of active television viewingPublished
