Abstract

The article presents a review of the scientific articles that address the subdermal implant. The objective of this review was to reveal and characterize the type of studies in Spanish that have been dedicated to the study of the implant and to identify different approaches on the subject. Full articles and theses in Spanish, published between 2001 and 2021 were included.

Clinical and epidemiological investigations were identified that base their care on the implant and its characteristics, conditions of use, effectiveness, side effects, rate of permanence and abandonment. To a lesser extent, research was found that includes the study of the implant within the framework of the sexual health policy that contains it. The studies found show the limited development of qualitative studies that address in depth the experiences of users and the inclusion of the implant as part of the Argentine sexual and reproductive health policy.
