Abstract

The study of the elites in the social sciences has been increasingly relevant from the midnineteenth century that is, since the emergence and consolidation of modern nation-states. In
Argentina, the 1960s marked the starting point of the research interest into high-ranking state
officials, and it is currently a profuse analysis line.
Having said this, this paper seeks to address the recruitment logics of the political-administrative
elites of the Ministry of Security of the Argentine Republic for the period of Mauricio Macri's presidency (2015-2019). To this end, the paper starts with the theoretical delimitation of senior
state cadres as a specific area of the Argentinean state bureaucracy. Next, the sociodemographic profiles of the minister, secretaries and undersecretaries of the portfolio are
analyzed, focusing on the educational, professional and political dimensions. This is approached
using the prosopographical technique, which seeks to reconstruct collective biographies.
In essence, this paper allows determining the technical training, professional trajectory and
political participation of the agents studied, contributing to the research on local political elites.
